Lake Winnipeg is located in the province of Manitoba.  It is the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world, 3rd largest hydroelectric reservoir in the world, and the largest watershed in Canada.  Physically the lake is 24,514 square kilometers and the entire watershed covers much of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. (http://www.lakewinnipegfoundation.org/about-us)

The lake is largely undeveloped, because of this it is home to some of the most pristine boreal forests and rivers that Canada has to offer.  The lake and the surrounding watershed are being promoted as a potential United Nations World Heritage Park.

Lake Winnipeg's topography also includes beautiful large limestone cliffs, plenty of remote sandy beaches, and numerous islands that are also largely undeveloped.
