To demonstrate greater understanding of water systems and watershed concepts in relation to sustainable development. The focus will be on the changing ecosystem of Lake Winnipeg and the impact that past and present decisions and actions will have on the current inhabitants and future generations in the area. Students will gain understanding through a variety of resources and then be asked to reflect and to take action to demonstrate care for the impact of human development on a community close to their own homes.

“Education for sustainable development seeks to foster the values, behaviour, and lifestyle required for a sustainable future. ESD helps students to earn how to make decisions that are long term and to better understand the world in which they live. Students then face the future with hope and confidence, knowing the connection between all living and non-living forms that make up the earth.”http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/esd/water/full_doc.pdf
